The site of the first gold strike in Colorado, in 1850, Arvada is now home to about 108,530 people. However, it still manages to retain its small town feel. The city provides quick access to the University of Colorado and Colorado School of Mines. Educational opportunities are also available at Red Rocks Community College’s Arvada campus. Located mostly within the Jefferson County School District, Arvada has four public high schools, five middle schools, 22 elementary schools, and two charter schools. There are also five private or parochial schools located within the city.
