Here come the holidays and this is when many people in Boulder get into the holiday spirit by beautifully decorating their homes and properties. A favorite holiday tradition is packing the car full of friends and family to cruise neighborhoods that are well known for pulling out all the stops and lighting up their landscapes. So without any further adieu, here are some of the best neighborhoods for checking out these fun and festive illuminated displays.
Merry and Bright in Mapleton Hill
The lovely Mapleton Hill community is renowned for its gorgeous architecture and tree-lined streets with some of the best and brightest decorations in Boulder. While Mapleton Drive is considered the main drag in this neighborhood, be sure to check out other avenues including Concord, Maxwell and Spruce streets. Regular appearances include an enormous inflatable snowman and a home fashioned to look like a life-sized gingerbread house.
Notable Northern Lights
Neighborhoods in Northern parts of Boulder is where there are some of the highest concentrations of holiday lights and displays are found. To see some of the best decorations, consider some of these routes and pathways:
- Many houses off 23rd Street really deck out their homes and yards
- From Broadway turn on Lee Drive to find a festive series of neighborhoods
- 5th street in the northernmost part of Boulder is prime real estate grounds for holiday displays
Table Mesa Tour in South Boulder
For more traditional fare, head South of Boulder to see a fair share of festive light displays although they’re slightly less dense in concentration. However, head up Table Mesa Drive in this namesake neighborhood for a unique, overhead view of these illuminated homes and properties. You may find a way to create your own pathway through multiple streets including Ithaca and Hillsdale who are well-known for decorating trees and houses with multi-colored lights and bulbs.
BONUS: University Place and the Pearl Street Mall
In the heart of Boulder, the University Place area is another great neighborhood to soak in the sights and check out the lights. After all this cruising and to stretch out your legs, be sure to stop by the Pearl Street Mall whose well-lit shopping arena can be seen for blocks. It officially begins during their annual Switch on the Holidays event when Santa makes the connection to bring power to illuminate the mall. This yearly ceremony takes place on Sunday, November 24th at 5:00 p.m. on the 1300 block of Pearl Street.
