Just 45 miles southeast of Denver is a unique pine-forested town called Elizabeth where alpacas grow and the good life is taken for granted. It is a quiet, unexpected haven with proud agricultural roots and a vision of steady, sustainable growth. Elizabeth manages to maintain its rural charm while steadily establishing itself as a hub of potential. With a quirky downtown and a friendly community vibe, it’s no wonder so many are choosing to call the town of Elizabeth home.
Farms & Alpacas
The village of Elizabeth’s access to wide-open spaces is not wasted by local entrepreneurs. Community farms and ranches are as much a part of the town’s character as the little shops enlivening the main street. Alpacas thrive on this alpine land and a visit to one of the neighborhood ranches is always a special day. You might want to stop by the Lazy Daze Ranch for one of its fun alpaca tours or sign up for a class in fiber artistry.
Bluebird Farms keeps a small herd of happy alpacas to offer crafters the best in natural fleece and also serves as a harbor for elderly animals. Bring the family to Elizabeth’s Wonderland Farms to check out the cutest miniature donkeys in the region. For organic fruit and vegetables, head over to Seeds to Savor Farm for a hands-on exploration of the newest in sustainable agricultural practices and the best in fresh produce.
Cafes & Brews
Elizabeth may be a small town but that didn’t stop it from introducing its own microbrewery in 2018. The Elizabeth Brewing Company is a veteran-owned venue with a knack for conjuring up a variety of tasty brews. The brewery hosts several energetic events throughout the year and it has become Elizabeth’s go-to destination for fun trivia nights and live music.
If coffee is more your idea of a brew, make your way over to the Cowboy Coffee Company. The small family-owned cafe is your custom coffee headquarters and makes superb breakfast burritos too. Locals like to hang out at Isabel’s Coffee for its friendly service and small bite goodies. Tea-drinkers who crave a bit of elegance and style can’t go wrong at The Carriage Shoppes Tea Room in the heart of downtown Elizabeth.
Events & Festivals
The Elizabeth community likes to celebrate its uniqueness and its heritage with a flourish. The town’s Celtic Festival each July draws revelers from all over the state to take part in the festivities. You can sample authentic Scottish food and music while local artisans strut their stuff. Stages are set in several locations in Elizabeth’s Casey Jones Park for reenactments and piping competitions. Don’t forget to wear your kilt.
Get a taste of Elizabeth’s Wild West roots at the Elizabeth Stampede held in June. The small rodeo is recognized as a top-level competition for its size featuring bull-riding, western dance bands, and rip-roaring fun for the whole family. In October, Elizabeth hosts area wineries at the Wine in the Pines event for a great day of wine-tasting and music. It doesn’t get any better than that.
