Enjoy a walk along tree-lined streets in the quiet neighborhoods of Congress Park. Named for the small park in its southwest section, Congress Park forms a square mile part of the area of Capitol Hill, an older, well-established district of Denver.
Homes for sale in Congress Park occupy an ideal location close to downtown, shopping and entertainment. Buses run regularly through the area, but many locals find it easy to walk to many of the popular places. A few businesses form a small strip of shopping within the neighborhood itself. Colfax Avenue makes up the northern edge of the district and contains many well-known restaurants, lively night life and variety of stores. The beloved Tattered Cover Bookstore, housed in the historic Lowenstein Theater is on Colfax, along with the Bluebird Theater.
Directly to the east of the Congress Park, Cheesman Park and the Denver Botanic Gardens draw many visitors and residents alike. The southern part of Congress Park includes the historic Seventh Avenue, the largest of Denver’s historic areas. This locale, plus the Country Club Historic District just to the east, includes many beautiful turn-of-the-century homes.
Denver annexed Congress Park in 1887. Its major development occurred between 1890 and 1924. Homes built during this period featured Queen Anne and Victorian styles in two-story, brick formats. Historical buildings such as Firehouse #15 built in 1905 and the Stevens School built in 1900 were converted to residences, but maintain their original exteriors and are listed on historical registers. The Capitol Heights Presbyterian Church with its modified Gothic revival architecture and arched stained glass windows still stands.
Locals often start their day in the Under the Umbrella Cafe and Bakery with coffee and a house-made blueberry bar. The Sienna Wine Bar and Small Plates serves a perfect size lunch. Tag Burger Bar lets you build your own burger. For great Italian food go the Shells and Sauce or Barolo Grill in Cherry Creek for a more elegant setting. These are just a few of the many, varied restaurants in the area
