Homes for Sale in Littleton from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000
Littleton houses for sale are in a community that began back in the Pikes Peak Gold Rush days in the late 19th century. Denver was growing to the west and south and to accommodate the new residents a series of ditches was built to supply water to these arid communities. Richard Little was hired to lay out this system. In 1874 the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad reached the area and the population quickly grew. By the time Colorado became a state in 1876 there were schools, churches, hotels, and stores. In 1890 there were 245 residents who voted to incorporate the little town of Littleton. In 1904 it became the county seat which brought government and all of its support services. Agriculture became the most prominent part of the economy, which it was until World War II. Then manufacturing became the most important employer and the source of the building boom in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Later Arapahoe Community College was established and then the Chatfield Reservoir in 1972. Now there are 35 miles of bikeways and trails, 1500 acres of parks and open space, golf courses, a nature center, and a vast array of recreational opportunities. There is a living history museum, the Historic Downtown Littleton shopping district, and the restored train depot is an active Arts Center. The population of the little town has grown to 42,000. With the variety of beautiful areas, from the historic downtown to the gorgeous foothills, Littleton offers a superb quality of life that is supported by the community, and there are many wonderful, luxury homes for sale.
