How to Include Artwork in Your Luxury Home

Most of us have a favorite artist whose work we really enjoy. But we find it difficult to create the type of décor into which the works of this artist will blend. At times, the problem might be that the artwork we like is very provocative. And since a lot of classic artwork might consist of nudes, it becomes a bit difficult to hang it in your living room for your friends and family to see when they visit. At times, the problem might be just that the color scheme of your favorite works of art doesn’t match with the color scheme of your home. So what do you do?

Original Artwork vs Prints

You might want to start by making a list of the artists that you like. Which works of art would you like to see everyday? If you have the budget to go to a few galleries and look at original works of art, that’s great. But if you don’t, you can always buy a print of the right size online, frame it and hang it in your home. There are a number of well-known artists in the history of Western art whose works are readily available as prints. For example, there’s the much-beloved Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso etc.

Landscapes: Monet and Cezanne

Many people love to hang Monet or Cezanne because these artists are well-known for their landscapes. A Monet landscape is always soothing to the eye. And there can be nothing inappropriate about hanging a landscape. If you’re decorating your home in cool colors, then a Monet will fit in very well, with its watery blues and greens. On the other hand, if you’d like something brighter, then you can always go with Cezanne’s Mont St. Victoire with its vibrant greens and ochres.

Human Figures and Abstract Paintings

If you’d rather hang a painting with human figures, then Renoir and Degas are two great choices. Renoir’s portraits and Degas’ ballerinas come across as aesthetically pleasing to even the most critical observers. And if your taste runs towards the abstract, you can go with Matisse or Kandinsky, the former for his vivid colors and sense of movement and the latter if you are fond of geometric shapes in bright hues.
