Six Luxurious Home Design Trends That Will Make Your Bathroom Feel Like a Spa (Part II)

After a long, hard day at work, your bathroom is your place to relax and unwind. But it needs some updating and you want the latest look. In last week’s blog, we perused three of the six design trends of this year. Let’s examine the last three magnificent trends now.

Patterned or “Wood” Tile

Depending on the look you’re going for terracotta, zellige or cement tiles will certainly provide a rich feel. Do you want to make a statement in one of your smaller bathrooms? Try using one of these tiles as a half-height wall behind your sink. In a large master bath, you can create an entire accent wall with fun, colorful geometric-shaped tiles, by hanging a big piece of art, painting the wall a vivid color or, if the wall’s big enough, have a mural drawn on the whole wall.

Yet those lovely geometric tiles aren’t just for walls; they’re great in bathrooms as a captivating ceiling, striking backsplash or attractive floor. You can even use them as your shower walls and floor to create an astounding focal point.

Speaking of the floor, we all know putting carpet in a bathroom is a big faux pas and the same is true for hardwood. It just doesn’t work well in wet areas. But if you’re like many people who just love the look of hardwood and really want it in your bathroom, you can always create the look of real wood by choosing a wood-look tile.

Brass Fixtures

Believe it or not, this trend from the late 80s and early 90s is returning. Everything from brass faucets, light fixtures, showerheads and even mirrors are in high demand. Why? This gold color enhances the space and “pops” against the neutral or darker tones of the walls and floors.

You’ll notice that brass lends a more modern, elegant look to a bathroom than polished chrome. Nowadays, it even comes in various finishes such as satin, spun gold and matte. It also hides water spots and fingerprints which is a fabulous benefit to purchasing brass fixtures for your bath. That means less cleaning on your part!

Under-the-Counter Appliances and Heated Floors

In this techy world it’s not surprising that new homes have the latest technology—especially in kitchens. But as we showed you in our last blog, the tech is slowly moving to the bathroom too. To have a luxurious bathroom—particularly a master bath—perhaps you should consider some of these small appliances that are becoming popular:

  • In the makeup area a small refrigerator could be installed for all of your (or your significant other) organic facial treatments or any medications. This area could also be wired for music or TV if that’s your thing—and who doesn’t like listening to tunes when they’re getting ready for work or a night out on the town?
  • If you’re one for relaxing in the whirlpool while sipping a glass of White Zinfandel or chamomile tea then a beverage center might work well for you.
  • How about a smart shower? This handy appliance will come to automatically “know” your water temperature preference and while you’re showering it’ll even play your favorites songs! An awesome invention for just stepping out of the shower is a warming drawer to keep your bath towel toasty.

Have you ever been suddenly jolted awake during the middle of the night as you step barefoot on your ice-cold bathroom floor? Who hasn’t! It’s a good thing floor heating systems are still a trend—of course, they may never go out of style! They’re installed under your floor and there are two advantages of these systems. Since they don’t use air current to heat your floor it might decrease allergic reactions as well as lower noise levels. Pretty cool! These systems work well with different flooring such as concrete, tile and vinyl. This system is sure to keep your floor and feet nice and warm.

Selecting one or all of these six wonderful trends will ensure that you have the dream bathroom you—or your guests—have always wanted. Please contact us for more ways to make your bathroom luxuriously updated.
