White Ranch Park near Golden

An easy drive from Denver on Highway 93 and with great views of both Golden and Denver, White Ranch has 10.4 miles of well-maintained and well-marked trails from level to a moderate incline. The trails are primarily used for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

Depending on the area, you feel like you are in a meadow, forest, or desert and you may see mule deer or mountain lions as well as a nice variety of Colorado fauna.

Genesee Park

Genessee is a Native American word for “shining valley”. This is a Denver-owned park that is reached from I-70 west of the city. It was the city’s first mountain park, was acquired in 1912, and is the largest mountain park with 2,413 acres.

Bald Mountain, at 7,988 feet, is a prominent point, and Genesee Mountain has a 360-degree view from 8,284 feet. The Park reaches to Clear Creek Canyon, with a low elevation of 6,280 feet at the bottom. The Beaver Brook Trail is a fairly short hike that follows a stream. This “Braille Trail” is an amazing addition with Braille signs and waist-high ropes/guide wire, which was designed to assist blind hikers.
