A recent article by Realtor.com says experts expect new construction to keep growing. When it comes to new construction design elements, the buzz words are extravagance and individuality.

The spa bathroom

One trend in new construction homes in the Denver area is to build incredible bathrooms. Some new homes even have two master bedroom suites with luxurious bathrooms instead of the traditional single master suite. The spa bathroom and tranquil designs cater to people who want to relax. Other private retreat areas such as sitting rooms off the master bedroom are also important.

The gourmet kitchen

Kitchens in new construction homes are sometimes simply spectacular. Many kitchens overlook the Great Room. Maple and cherry cabinetry is a popular choice. Kitchens are now viewed as a central meeting place where children can do homework and parents can socialize with friends. Most Metro Denver luxury homes have stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, hardwood floors and kitchen islands, although most builders allow people to customize their kitchens. Interesting new finishes like glossy white and black glass for appliances, thicker or thinner countertops and innovative options like steam ovens, infrared broilers and induction cooktops are also adding interest to new homes. A large pantry is also a plus in new construction homes that you don’t always find in older houses.

The flex space

Several builders in the Denver area build new construction homes with flexible spaces. While the older generation appreciates formal living and dining areas, a lot of younger buyers want space to use for different purposes. David Weekley builds a home featuring a study on the first floor and an owner’s retreat on the second floor. Standard Pacific is building homes with a “project room” for crafts or other hobbies. Even mudrooms are turning into more flexible spaces! You may find a desk in a mudroom as well as benches and high-end cabinets.
